'makings of a woman.'

‘makings of a Woman’ is a collection of raw submissions of my experiences-- ranging from poems to journal entries, to essays all lived + written while journeying through my 20’s. this project is the product of my growth since my first poetry book titled, ‘unapologetically, me’, published in 2014. ‘unapologetically, me’ was the beginning of my story as a “twenty something”-- where finding + losing romantic + platonic love, moving away from home at 18, and discovering my love for self would be the beginning of a beautiful journey. i was unapologetically walking + writing towards self awareness. whereas ‘makings of a woman’ was created upon reflection, acceptance, + moving forward. “living, loving, + learning, + not putting one above the other” became a mantra used while learning to give importance to every part of my journey. i am 26 years old now, and while i’m still figuring out many parts of myself while still living life, i’ve learned + carried many lessons along with me to this point. for one, sometimes, we tend to celebrate the sweeter moments in life, while disregarding the sour ones + i’ve learned that it is ultimately all about balance. most importantly, during the writing of ‘makings of a Woman’, i learned that the greatest lesson i could apply to anything in my life is to own my own shit. ‘makings of a Woman’ was just that-- owning all of who i am while creating a woman needing to make sense of her story through understanding, acceptance, and poetry.
